- First and foremost, I believe that everyone defines, experiences, and exhibits leadership in their own unique way. Being a leader you don’t have to agree with these perceptions, but you do have to be understanding of the fact that everyone will have different ideas. Differing ideas are a good thing and they only lead to more growth. Growth and change are hard, but GOOD.
- I value Collaboration, Loyalty, Justice, Friendship, and Self Discovery/Self Awareness.
- All of this, stems from my deep belief in honesty and transparency. As a leader, I feel most confident when I am being completely truthful, regardless of if it is a hard truth. I am aware that the truth can hurt and that this trait of mine can rub some people the wrong way. I am also aware, though, that this trait allows me to make friends and develop strong relationship quickly. I believe that it is important to be aware of your strengths and short-comings. It is important to understand the things that you can and cannot change about yourself.
- According to Clifton Strengths, I am strong in Harmony, Consistency, Adaptability, Relating, and being Restorative. I believe these tie into my values and my strive for honesty. I believe in searching for compromise. I believe in treating everyone the same no matter who they are or what the circumstances are. I believe that it is important to be flexible no matter what situation is thrown at you. I believe the skill of being able to relate to others, make them feel comfortable around you, and have them trust you is more than just a soft skill. It’s not something you can just teach and it’s extremely important in leadership. I believe in listening to others and attempting to help others with their own problems.
- I believe that action speaks louder than words.
- I believe in caring about the people around you.
- I believe that emotions are a sign of strength in a leader, not a weakness. Being able to share that with others around you, makes you even stronger.
- I believe that positivity can change a situation for the good. While you can’t physically change your circumstance, mindset can.
- Regardless of your stature in life, it is important to learn from your peers. I believe in life-long learning and self-growth.
- I believe in believing in yourself. If you aren’t on your side how do you expect anyone else to be? Especially as a leader- fake it ’til you make it.
- I believe that all of these things go into good leadership; more specifically the way that I hope to carry out leadership.
